How to maximize the lifespan of probes!

Time:2024-10-18Reading:1066Second

Probe is an essential component in the precision electronic testing process. In the process of electronic circuit research and production, it is often necessary to test and analyze the on-off and quality of signals. Precise probes are used to extract signals without damage and provide them to the corresponding testing system for integrated analysis. The quality of probes greatly affects the accuracy and repeatability of testing.So everyone must be curious about how to maximize the lifespan of the probe!

testing environment

Conventional probes typically have a lifespan of around 100000 cycles. If the testing environment is poor, pollutants will enter the needle body during probe movement and adhere to the spring. Some pollutants will corrode the spring, some pollutants will adhere to the spring, and some pollutants will accumulate between the turns of the spring and hinder its contraction. After a period of accumulation, these pollutants will cause irreparable damage to the spring and shorten the service life of the probe.

Under normal circumstances, thinner probes are relatively shorter, so the lifespan of normal probes is close to the theoretical lifespan provided by the manufacturer. Good maintenance and upkeep of fixtures, as well as high cleanliness of the boards used for fixture testing, can reduce the frequency of probe replacement by testing according to the specified stroke of the probe.

Proper use of probes

To prolong the lifespan of the probe, it is necessary to ensure the reasonable use of the working stroke. Exceeding the specified stroke (2/3 of the full stroke) will significantly shorten the lifespan of the probe. Test the pressing speed, if moving at a speed of ≥ 60 times/min, it may shorten the lifespan of the probe. Additionally, it is necessary to ensure that the probe extends and retracts vertically on the device and does not exceed the rated currentWait;

How to improve the lifespan of probes?

1. Regularly clean the contaminants on the probe head using a dry electrostatic brush, with the probe tip parallel to the ground;

2. Ensure the cleanliness of the measuring points and avoid excessive residues such as rosin and soldering flux;

3. The probe should be used with the correct stroke and should not be overloaded;

4. The temperature of the probe application environment should not exceed the set value of the probe;

5. During the testing process, the probe should not have any lateral force involved;

6. The current for probe testing should not exceed the rated value;

When maintaining the probe on the equipment, try to use professional tools as much as possible.
